The Family Atlas of the United States was published by Rand, McNally & Co. in 1892 for the World's Fair in St. Louis of 1904 for the map drawing contest.  It was not sold publicly and was only available to participants of the contest.  The publisher's note goes on to say that "Every family should secure the work, as it could not be placed upon the market in the regular retail way for less than $1.50 per copy."

The St. Louis World's Fair celebrated the Columbian Expedition and occurred on the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase.
