How to Join the Society
The Osage County Historical Society relies on the generous support of its members who purchase annual memberships. Anyone interested in the preservation of history in Osage County is invited to become a member. Many benefits of membership are included, and outlined below.
- Membership opportunities:
The membership fees were raised $5 at the last general meeting. We found this small raise necessary to help meet our budget goals. We hope that this is still reasonable for anyone who wants to be a member. However due to the great needs of your society, we encourage all who can to join or renew this year with a supporting membership. This extra tax-deductable contribution will be a great help to your society.
The Benefits of Membership
All members of the Society receive the "Newsletter of the Osage County Historical Society", which is published monthly. This six-page publication informs the membership of OCHS activities, genealogical meetings and workshops, gives helpful tips on doing research, and provides a forum for members to exchange information on family history. In addition, the newsletter contains feature articles about the people, places and events that have shaped the development of Osage County and are part of the rich fabric of its past. Sometimes these articles are run as a series, such as the rural school stories, the series on the year 1900, the history of the railroads, the World War II Veterans series, and the articles on World War I. Many articles are the result of information sent in by readers, and these contributions are not only welcome, but essential, so that the newsletter remains interesting, educational and entertaining.
A complete index of all past articles is included on this website. See the Home page.
Currently, about 500 newsletters are sent out all over the United States, and a larger total number goes out of state than those mailed within Missouri. The OCHS Newsletter is the Society's link to its membership and its members' link to each other.
Members also receive free research at the Osage County Genealogy Center.
Other Options: The Osage County Historical Society also accepts monetary gifts and grants, volunteer assistance, and items for the museums.
